Palmetto Interpreters is a company seeking to breach the language gap between South Carolina companies and their Hispanic clients by providing interpretation and document translation services. In response to South Carolina’s increasing Hispanic population, we continue to gain a working knowledge and understanding of the challenges facing our clients today.

Addressing the medical needs of Hispanics with limited English-speaking proficiency involves providing interpreters with an understanding of language nuances and the culture of the Spanish-speaking community, based on our own personal experience and background.

Palmetto Interpreters is an essential element for clients to improve interpretation by preventing misunderstandings between professionals and clients, while at the same time minimizing liability. Effective communication is a result of successfully combining knowledge with clarity of message. Palmetto Interpreters prides itself in being the only 24/7 on-call company in South Carolina that provides the most proficient interpreters in both target and source languages.

We are an interpretation and translation company that specializes in producing high quality translation of your official documents, guaranteeing accurate interpretation by our qualified interpreters. We have become an established company within the Midlands of South Carolina and during the last 5 years have built contracts with some of the largest health care providers in the area.

The rapidly growing Hispanic community in the southern region of the U.S. has created new challenges for those within the health care arena.  Many of the individuals immigrating to this area speak little or no English and medical staff are facing new obstacles, with the need to effectively communicate while maintaining the standard of care that they are confident with.

Our company has dedicated itself to facilitating communication for clients between health care and legal institutions, as well.  Our interpreters are HIPPA-trained and qualified and most importantly, they have in-hospital experience and are able to handle volatile and difficult emergency situations.  We can also provide proof of Professional Liability Insurance. Palmetto Interpreters is currently in good standing with the Carolina Association of Translators and Interpreters (CATI), National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC), ProZ, and The National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators (NAJIT).

Palmetto Interpreters is also a proud member of the American Translators Association (ATA),  the largest and only national translators association. ATA encourages quality, responsibility, and reliability in both legal and medical document translation.  We are licensed for legal translations and have experience in working with legal documents from all states all over the U.S. We guarantee the accuracy of our work and hold error and omissions insurance.

JOHN REED, CCHI - Founder, President

Palmetto Interpreters was founded by John Reed in 2006 in association with friend and colleague Phillip Biddulph.

He was born in Madrid, Spain and has a B.A. in Psychology and Bible from Columbia International University. Having worked as an interpreter for SC and NC hospitals, clinics, law-firms and courtrooms for the past 10 years, Reed has developed a unique ear for all things medical as well as legal. He has since expanded his vocabulary with many South American Spanish words and expressions. He tries to learn one "mexican" word a day to stay relevant but is certified and tested in both Healthcare and State Court. He is CCHI certified and a member of ATA, NAJIT and CATI.

A fan of Real Madrid soccer team since he was three, Reed has made a home in Columbia,SC. However, it was finally after his twelfth year in the city that he has found it irresistible to cheer for the City's team the USC Gamecocks and become a "gamecock" himself.
